CASE STUDY - Education/School Project
Waterproofing consultancy and structural engineering project – Education Building
Diagnostech were engaged by an exclusive Catholic College in Potts Point Sydney to design a high quality solution for a dilapidated and constantly leaking roof structure on a building with heritage significance. The building was being refurbished and the new library on the top floor was at risk of ongoing damage due to water penetration.
Following a series of investigations we determined that the metal roofing had been retro-fitted over a concrete slab to address these same issues in years gone by.
Working closely with the Project Managers, Diagnostech designed a solution which entailed complete removal of the metal roof structure and waterproofing of the structural roof slab with new drainage and stormwater management system. This solution was expanded to enable an enclosed plant room structure to be constructed directly on the roof to the satisfaction of the client and Local Council.
Diagnostech was responsible for the design of the waterproofing and stormwater works and the structural engineering of the new plantroom enclosure including assessment of loading on an old and heritage significant building.
We were then charged with the responsibility of tendering the project and providing technical superintendence throughout the construction phase.
Diagnostech offered a solution which had not been considered by the client and one which turned out to be not only cost effective but provided added benefits to the building as well as returning the heritage structure back to its original form.
The client is pleased and the library remains dry!
