Example of waterproofing consultancy and concrete durability project
Diagnostech were engaged by a joint venture company who were constructing a road duplication project including a new bridge for the RTA in Wagga Wagga NSW.
Following construction of the bridge deck it was found that insufficient concrete cover had been provided jeapordising the design life of the structure. A waterproof membrane was applied to the whole of the bridge deck to provide improved protection to the concrete however it failed upon application of the asphalt road surface.
Diagnostech were engaged to diagnose the cause of the waterproofing failure and to ensure the project could be completed to meet the exacting requirements of the RTA and the Joint Venture.
Diagnostech conducted some destructive and non-destructive testing on site and prepared an analysis of the mechanisms of failure. We then implemented a prototype application of the specified waterproofing products and established clear application and quality control procedures for the project.
By working closely with all stakeholders we facilitated a successful completion of the bridge deck and avoided costly and expensive litigation that may have ensued if the project could not be delivered on time and without cooperation of all parties.
Diagnostech successfully diagnosed the cause of the failure, prescribed a high quality project solution and conducted on-site quality control management.
The RTA and the Contractors involved were extremely pleased with the result and can be confident that the bridge deck is adequately protected for the long term.
